« on: Saturday 12 July 14 22:35 BST (UK) »
Does anyone recognize this trade? Quite possibly to do with the GWR as in Swindon.
The man is Arthur Knee age 30 born in Melksham.
( Ref, Swindon District 34  page 45)
Thanks, Toby.

Thanks to all of you. So easy when you know. I really thought the third letter was a  'g'. T

It's the long tail to the letter R that does it

The word "rivetter" is clearer is some of the other decades.

I have learnt to look at all the census forms for an individual before trying (too hard) to decode any particular one.

(I note that two Arthur Knees were born in the that place/year, but the other one's (consistently) a carpenter/woodworker.)

BTW there's a MJA Knee employed by God's Wonderful Railway ((GWR) at Swindon as an engine cleaner (2/2 an hour) on 21 March 1918. The railway's employment records are online with Ancestry.co.uk but the originals are at Kew.
Thomas, Davies, Jones, Walters, Daniel in Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. That should narrow it down a bit!
Vincent: Fressingfield, Suffolk, Stockton & Sunderland.
Murtha/Murtaugh: Dundalk & Sunderland
Ingram: Cairnie by Huntly, Scotland then Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.
Bardouleau: London - in memory of my stepmother Annie Rose née Bardouleau who put up with a lot from me.
