Bridget Tomas, born about 1870, County Mayo
« on: Wednesday 18 September 13 00:59 BST (UK) »
I need help finding the parents and siblings of Bridget F. Tomas, born in 1869-70 in County Mayo (perhaps Doonfeeny? Ballycastle? Ballyglass?)
Two of her brothers were Thomas and Patrick Tomas. They were still living in County Mayo in 1930, when Bridget died in Muskegon, Michigan. She also had a sister living in Pennsylvania in 1930.

If anyone has information about the Tomas family from County Mayo, please let me know.
Thank you so much.  Jeanne

Welcome to Rootschat. Did Bridget marry in America? if so, the certificate will probably list names of both parents which you can use to verify any Irish records found.

One possibility- nowhere near Ballycastle (very few places near there actually) but in the same area as Ballyglass:
Bridget Thomas born 1869 Castlebar registration district (parents Patrick Thomas & Mary Walsh) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F5CN-H32
Patrick (1872) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F5F1-M4N
Thomas (1867) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FP4Z-NLH

Marriage of Patt Thomas & Mary Walsh (1866) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FG8X-QY7
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Do you have the name and any further information about her sister?  Her information might help lead back to the parents, siblings, or place of birth.

This appears to be Bridget's death certificate, which lists her parents as Martin Tomas and Mary Newcomb -  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KFQL-JL9

This has a possible sister Mary born Ballycastle:  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FP38-MLK

Possibility for brother Thomas:  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FPQH-ND4

Possible sister Catherine:  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGZX-PBY

Possible marriage of Martin Tomas & Mary Newcome:  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGDJ-68L

Hi! I believe I found whom you are looking for.
Marriage:
Bridgett Tomas to Daniel J Shields Muskegon,Michigan 12 Nov 1888 Bridgett father listed as Martin Tomas.
Looking at Griffiths Valuation Martin shows in townlands of Horse Island and Geevrawn, both in parish of Doonfeeny.
I then found the marriage of Martin Tomas and Mary Newcome in North Mayo in 1865.
Found 5 births of children to Martin and Mary (Newcombe on birth records of children)
Bridget 1865 reg district Killala
Patrick 1866 reg district Killala
Mary 1872 reg in Ballycastle
Catherine 1875 reg in Ballycastle
Thomas 1878 reg in Ballycastle

I found a Mary Thomas who died in 1881 in reg district of Castlebar age 55 born 1826 who may be Martin's wife. Mind the General Hospital is there so it may explain why she was in that reg district. I also found 2 Martin Tomas deaths; 1 died 1909 born 1821 and the other died in 1911 born in 1823.Hope this helps,Kim

Kim....
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!! You really brought some sunshine into a snowy, cold, dark winter day!  Now I only wish I could actually see where my great-grandparents lived...Horse Island and Geevrawn.  Maybe, some day....
Thanks again, you really helped me a lot!
