Cassidy, missing pieces.
« on: Saturday 22 March 14 22:28 GMT (UK) »
Im trying to fill in some missing pieces regs Henry Cassidy, this is what I know so far, any help appreciated.

Henry lived at some stage circa 1916 at 36 The Coombe, he was a member of the High St sect of Citizen army and served in the College of Surgeon's in the 1916 Rising.

Henry Married Christina Handley in 1918 probably in the liberties as that was where Christina was from.(I have some info for Christina, it Henry who is the mystery)Christina father was James according to 1901 census.

I also know Henry died in January 1924 at an address in Newmarket St.

Apart from the above nothing is known of Henry's parents or siblings.
looking forward to any further info.

There is a reference below to Henry by a user called Hawkeye who would appear to be a relative:

Thank you for that link Gaffy, I knew about his internment but didnt know about 'crissy' (Christina's role)..That will be something to research t later stage.

I hope to have their marriage cert, and Henry's death cert  in the next few days so hopefully that may throw some light on the subject...I wondering know was he christened for example John Henry, then the first name dropped.?
but that's just a theory, hopefully find more If and when the certs turn up.
Thanks again.

Thanks Dathai, yes that's the cert im Due to pick up in the morning, that looks promising, I also noticed the majority of the Cassidys C-O-I.

The address would tie in with the area he seemed to have lived and died in, His future wife from nearby Ardee row next to Brabazon St.

His sect in Citizen army High St.

I will have a look at that now, very thankful to you.

I see his Brother in law Edward Handley of Kildare Rd made a witness statement in 1951 Bureau of Military History gives both Henry and Chriss a mention said she used run the guns for them.

Yes Dathai,
Its Thought that Henry/Harry may have been orphaned at a young age and brought up by his gran not sure whether Maternal or Paternal.
There is also a link into a family called Thornberry (very few in Dublin at the time)Possibly his mums side.

I see from records that there are a few Thornberry family living in the vicinity..one around the corner in New St.
