War Memorial in Kenley
« on: Monday 06 July 09 14:15 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know of a war memorial in Kenley? If so does the name Carleton Wyndham Tufnell appear on it? I should also like to know if the All Saints Church had a memorial of any description to him. Any help gratefully received.

I'm pretty sure that there isn't a war memorial monument in Kenley, but there is a Kenley Memorial Hall. It does have a website with some contact details for the caretaker who may be able to tell you if there are any plaques commemorating Kenley soldiers. I go past there from time-to-time and will try and drop in but can't promise when I'll next be around that area.

hello. i walked past kenley memorial hall earlier today. it was all closed up so couldn't stop in to ask questions. there is a monument at RAF Kenley to all who served there. and i don't know if this is much help, but there is also a memorial with names on it in the grounds of a church just at the edge of kenley, st james's riddlesdown. can't remember what exactly it says but can walk by there and look at it sometime in the next few days.

There is a war memorial at Kenley, only viewable (as far as I know) by taking the train from Kenley towards Caterham.

It is on your left (East) three yards from the track, hidden from the A 22 road behind the houses.
It is a needle (c.f Cleopatra's Needle, London) about 12 ft high and commemorates RAF Kenley

Were your people either civilians at Kenley Battle-of-Britain aerodrome, or members of the armed forces?
