Jane Davies baptism 30/01/1820 Steynton
« on: Monday 10 June 13 17:59 BST (UK) »
Hi

Does anyone have access to the Steynton parish records recording Jane's baptism and in particular anything referring to her parent's details?

Many thanks in advance for any details.

Hi Thanks....yes that looks like her. She got married in Steynton on 9 Oct 1841 to Thomas Lloyd Owen(s) I believe.

Absolom as a Christian name....unusual.

Thanks very much for hunting that down for me.

Hello Dalwhat

I have found Jane`s marriage, same date as you BUT it gives her Dad as John Davies,Labourer

I have looked for another Jane with Dads name John but no luck.
I also looked on the site I use for a marriage of either a Absolom or John & having no luck ???

Kind regards

Hmm....my Jane is the one who married Thomas Owen and age tied up with the listing or the "fake Jane". I'll have to do some more digging. Thanks again.

John Davies Master (i.e. Warrant Officer) Royal Navy married Martha Gough at Steynton 22 Dec 1816
John Davies married Mary Griffiths at Steynton 13 Dec 1814

I've now got the marriage certificate back and Jane's father is listed as being John Davies, labourer.

Now if Oriel's first suggestion of the John Davies being a warrant officer in the navy is to be considered I would doubt he list his occupation as labourer? Having said that however Jane's husband Thomas WAS a mariner, as was his father William so you could imagine they were keeping things in the family so to speak.

Based on the listing of John Davies being a labourer however makes me lean to him being Mary Griffiths' husband although Jane does name her third of four daughters Martha (although her husband Thomas has a sister Martha who signed the marriage licence as a witness).

I reckon it's probably John Davies / Mary Griffiths are her parents what do you all think?
