Stephen HIRE b.1886 d.1942?
« on: Tuesday 02 July 13 09:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,

My grandmother's brother Stephen HIRE was born in 1886 in Milford Haven, the son of Henry HIRE and Mary JENKINS. In the 1911 Census he was a mason's labourer living in Milford with his wife an child.

I have been unable to find any record of his death. There is a suggestion that he died in 1942 at sea. Could nyone help me with this? Could he have been a casualty of the war? as a fisherman? He would have been rather too old for military service.

Thanks

Ian EVANS

I wonder if this was mistranscribed when it was indexed at the GRO, it's a match for age

Stephen Hird 53 dec qtr 1939 Haverfordwest vol 11a pg 2350

I can't seen a Stephen Hird of the right age in the birth or marriage indexes of England & Wales or in the census.

Thanks Osprey,

I think you have done this sort of thing before!!!

I'm flush with cash, so I'll buy the death certificate.
