Thank you one and all for you replies, nice surprise I must say to log on and find them all,    I thought I was hitting a brick wall.

I was told Patrick had a brother Michael from a g-g-grandson to Patrick he was given some info and it was all written on that, but there was nothing really to go on so he has never chased it up.

As far as he knows patrick married Mary Ann Phillips in Ireland as two of their children were born there..well that doesn't really mean they were married there does it? of course it doesn't, they may have married in Tasmania, their next two children were born in Launceston, and I haven't found a marriage for them there either.

I will print out the replies and go through them, thank you all so much.

I can't see him in the Chelsea Pensioner's Records, I was under the impression, that he married a, Mary Ann Phillips, in Tasmania  ??

Free BMD has the birth registered in December quarter 1851 so the birth date must be wrong.


Looking at the years of births, there is quite a gap between Catherine and Mary A. Of course, there may have been infant deaths.
Catherine shows born in St Helens, Lancs abt 1840. There is a Catherine Phillips March Quarter 1840 Prescot, which covers St Helens

Thank you  heywood for the info, I too have notice the large gap between Catherine & Mary Ann, I have searched for others born bewteen them or maybe even a death but have come up with nothing, 6 years is quite a big gap, maybe you are right in saying there may have been a death or two between them.

Maybe something will come up later if it can be found.

Looking at the St Helens birth, it may be that Catherine was born before a marriage but only the certificate would tell you if it was the right birth. I can't see anything in 1841 which helps.

Yes, maybe she was born before a marriage I have never come across a marriage date for her parents...will keep searching.

Have you downloaded the military record to check if it is him? It might give information about his whereabouts during those years or when he left the army.
