Hi I'm not sure if this helps you but it's a post I found on another site I use there is one more post of which I will retrieve for you
Regards Sharon

talking to my 2nd cousin yesterday, he told me that one of my ancestors move from Staffordshire to West ham, he was born 1900 so possibly after WW1. He married a local lady called ?Iris whose family owned the scrapyard next to the football ground. His name was Tom Smith and worked at Fords motor plant as a security guard. |Does anyone remember the scrapyard or the family who owned it?? hoping someone can point me in the right direction, and appreciate the help Helen (newbie)

The scrapyard that I remember at this location was called The New London Electron Works and was owned by the George Cohen 600 Group.  It was set-up there in the very early 1920s  and was disbanded. in the 1970s to make way for a tower block.

I have tried FreeBMD for a marriage of Tom or Thomas Smith to an Iris, 1900-1940.

Nothing comes up?!

However:

thanks tried that too... as usual family stories have some element of truth but around a large curve... seeking Smiths I'm resigned to it  but cheers Nel x
