Holytown/new stevenson

I am doing a bit of family research and my great grand parents lived in the railway cottages at holytown station. Does anyone know where they were situated and if they are still in existence today?

It looks as if the area has been cleared around the station itself, although there are still some old cottages in the area.
I would imagine that "railway cottages" were inhabited by railway workers. So they wouldn't have been top quality.

He was a signalman at the Holytown signal box. I did a google search for railway cottages and although nothing specific came up there were cottages for sale/to let in the area so I thought I would ask...thanks for the quick reply though

The National Library of Scotland's maps website gives you free access to all the old maps of Scotland. If you click in "Series Maps", you will get access to older large-scale Ordnance Survey maps (up to 25" to the mile) of the area. There is a slider bar which allows you to merge in and out of modern maps (including satellite ones) so you can compare the place with today.

Dickessex, not sure when your relative was a signalman there, but thought you might find this interesting as a background piece  Good description of being on the job!

GR2...I had looked at the maps but didn't realise about the slider bar so will have a look at that now

MonicaL...I had read that report, interestingly he was a signalman at Holytown signals at that time as he shows up on the 1901 census but is not mentioned in the report

Thanks for all your help guys, one more question...it is not possible to determine from the os maps but is there any way to find out which was the "blackie" pit, which I know was near the station area
