Ok the 1st. one is 1890's & I would suggest a date of around 1895-8.
The 2nd. is late Edwardian & could easily be into & just beyond the war years.
Bearing in mind there's a 15-20 year gap do you think she looks that much older?

None of the girls have curly hair in the first photo with 4 children. It looks to me the mother of the 4 children is shown in the second photo as a young girl with her brother and mother. The eyes are the same . ,tommy

Just looked up the birth of the baby in the photograph and she was born 1895.

Jennifer

I'm confused.  What name did you look up?

Could I be cheeky and ask how you date the photograph to the late 1890s?  I don't doubt you, but I had been hoping the boy was born c1873.

Thank you for your patience!
Philip

1st. thing I noticed was the matte cardstock & gold embossed lettering which is an 1890's onwards style.
2nd. was the lady with the Gigot sleeve, commonly called a leg-o-mutton because of it's puffy upper.
This was a short lived creation from 1893-8.

What boy ?
I can't see a child that's clearly identifiable as a boy.

The photograph I found on EBay was named, so I looked her birth up and she was born 1895. Picture taken at Upton Park Branch.

My apologies - I thought you were dating the photograph taken outdoors of the mother and two children to the mid/late 1890s.

I had hoped that the mother in the indoor photo (parents and four young children) was born c1875 and was the same person as the girl in the outdoor photo.  If the outdoor photo (mother and two children) is c1910-20ish, that throws a huge spanner in the works and I will have to rethink.

All the best
Philip

Now I understand.  I thought you had found a name for a baby in my photo and got over-excited!
