Carswell Family from Colyton

I am trying to explore my family connections to this family and to Colyton. My 9x great-grandfather was Francis, but I cannot locate any birth record for him. His will of 1739, however, mentions land in Colyton, and also refers to a sister, Abigail. I believe that she was born in Wambrook, Dorset in 1631, the daughter of Francis and Abigail Carswell.

Another possible link to Colyton is that Francis went to Exeter College, Oxford as did two others, Solomon and John Carswell, from Colyton. These two would have been members of his father's generation, so I am intrigued to discover if they were all related and if so how.

I would be grateful for any information, or suggestions as to where I could look for it.

Hi Alan,
Although I can't find a baptism there are two areas I suggest following up on. There are two female baptisms in different locations in Devon in the right time frame so it is worth investigating those families. They are (from FamilySearch):
