Baillie's of George Bell & Mary nee Birse
« on: Tuesday 22 February 11 11:59 GMT (UK) »
I'm searching on three of George Bell Baillie born 1835 he had 10 children, I'm interested in the three daughters Kitty Baillie, Agnes Baillie & Jessie Baillie that didn't sail with the rest of the family to South Australia, on the Loch Fyne Vessell from Grenoch to Port Adelaide, South Australia.
George Bell's son John married Jessie McNab and had three kids Janet, John & Male name unknown, However John did sail to Australia, our book says he's children passed before their 21st birthdays any information on these kids spouse's or family in general would be greatly appreciated. Also George Bell's first wife Mary Birse passed away 12/1/1876, however unsure of the cause of death or where is buried, she left George Bell widowed with ten children, however he later married Jean Dicksen in his new life Down Under, his grave can be found in Broken Hill Cemetery NSW, Australia 1/8/1911.

Cheers

Sheree Baillie

Hi Sheree,

First of all there is a tree on Ancestry which seems to have your family.  Of course it could be yours.

In the 1881 Census - Jessie T Baillie  24 born Guthrie, Forfarshire c 1857
Isobella R Baillie aged 4 daughter  living at 6 Rosebank, St. Vigeans, Arbroath.
In the 1891 Census - Jessie Bailry 32 along with daughter Isabella aged 14, William aged 6, Maggie Ann aged 7
and a boarder are living at 45 West Abbey St., Arbroath, Angus.
In the 1901  Census - Jessie Baillie aged 44, William M Baillie 17, Maggie A Baillie 14, Alexina W Baillie aged 9,
Lizzie W Baillie aged 8, William W Ballie aged 6.

Sorry  will have to go back and see if last 4 are related as their names are actually transcribed as Ballie.

Hi Sheree,

Just could not ley this lie found the following births on SP

Isabella Ross Baillie (illigitimate) b 19 May 1876 St Vigeans, Arbroath  mother Jessie Baillie, bleachfield worker.
William Mitchell Baillie (illigitimate) b 30 May 1884 Arbroath, Angus both are signed by Jessie
Elizabeth Carrie Wishart Baillie (illigitimate) b Feb, 1893  Father Alexander Wishart, general labourer and Mother Jessie Baillie Labourers daughter.  This one is signed by both Mother and Father.

I wonder if the other two youngest are also Wishart's as they also seem to have the W in their name.

Thank you both for all of your assistance on my family query, can you suggest any online Scotland website that I could gain more information? Yes I would say that family tree is mine listed on ancestry! It has been a while since I was last on here, I have only just seen your replies today!

best regards,

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is the only online source for original birth, marriage, death and census records. It's pay-per-view but modestly priced.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
