Names in brackets in Valuation Revision Books
« on: Monday 13 October 14 20:33 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I have come across a few names in the Revision Books with a first name in brackets beside them. In my case it says John Malcomson (Richard). John Malcomson (David). Usually when the land has passed to someone else the name John Malcomson would be crossed out and the new name written in but there is no line crossing out John. Does anyone have any idea what the bracketed name means?

Thank you.

Where there were two or more of the same name in the same townland, the additional name may have been added to differentiate between the two.  The names used may have been their respective fathers given names.
