hi diarmuid
thanks for the look up, that man martin curran on the griffiths valuation of the 1850's was my GGgrandfather.
What I am looking for is someone who shares maybe some local match with me, so maybe i can help them or vice versa.
I think this website is marvelous, and I have got much help already from the very enthusiastic contributors, but have also added my knowledge too.
It is a great thing for me if i can help too.
Once again, thank you for the look up.
all the best

Hello Pete,
Just joined the site and immediately looked for Carlow!
In 1881 John and Anne Curran, (both born in Carlow in 1847) were living in Hinde Street, Gorton, Manchester. My
mother tells me that they were related to my great grandmother Ann Kavanagh (nee Thornton) who was born in Rathvilly, Carlow in c. 1847. I have searched several sites for evidence of her baptism and a possible Thornton/Curran marriage, but so far have had no luck! Here's hoping it will change!
All the best,

Josie

hi there
i do not know if the currans you speak of are from the same family as rathvilly and drumphea are a number of miles apart. Just to note that curran is a relatively common name in those parts.
i will look into it and see what i can dig out, though give me some time.
all the best
