Hi Donegal

The newspapers in this area at this time are probably the
Guardian 'group'
http://www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/news/local/stainesnews/

Informer 'group'
http://www.britishpapers.co.uk/england-se/staines-informer/

or the Herald 'group'
http://www.britishpapers.co.uk/england-se/surrey-herald/

You may need to search for alternative contact addresses for these papers.

Rosie as you say we don't want Surrey I was first in Middlesex then Surrey now its
Staines on Thames I live in Stanwell  (mums side go back generations in the village) & still use Middlesex on my Address.
Buriels in  Stanwell Cemetery would only be given to  people with strong connections to the village , born in the village or who    have spent most of their life there or strong connections to st Marys church..

Just discovered, through a death cert, that a much searched for relative passed away in 1974, whilst living in Shepperton.

The Registration district shows as Surrey Northern, Sub District Spelthorne, County of Surrey.
Place of death is Shepperton,Middlesex.

In addition to the changes to county boundaries ( and indeed,  after 1965 there was no more "Middlesex" ),   you also need to consider the possibility that your relative did not die in their own residence -  many people don't.

Always remember where a place is situated is governed by the date of the the occurrence.

For example a woman is born in 1913 in Windhuk, German South West Africa
She marries in Windhoek, South West Africa, 1937
She dies in Windhoek, Namibia 2000.

Or more locally a man is born in Sunderland, County Durham, 1920
He marries in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, 1946
He dies in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear in 2005 which means now he died in the same county as he married in as Newcastle and Sunderland are in the same county now.

Hi Barry

Could I ask what made you post on a completed topic from 2014?
