DYMOCK Family - Milton Clevedon & Ditcheat
« on: Thursday 20 November 14 21:49 GMT (UK) »
I believe my husband's 4 x great grandfather was Elias DYMOCK who was born in Ditcheat in about 1734 and was married there in 1758 to Mary SLADE.
Elias was the son of William & Mary DYMOCK who although bringing up a family in Ditcheat were both buried in Milton Clevedon.  I haven't found their marriage so I don't know Mary's maiden name.
I believe William DYMOCK, born about 1707, was probably the son of Thomas & Elizabeth DYMOCK whose children were all christened in Milton Clevedon - but again I don't know Elizabeth's maiden name and I haven't found a marriage.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

Hi, just a couple of ideas - would all need checking & confirming

5 Nov 1734 William Demack (Wells) married Mary Stafford (Mere, Wilts) at St Marys, Elm. Elm is near Frome. Frome is in the same area of Somerset as Evercreech which is near Milton Clevedon.

Also found an earlier marriage of an Elias, possibly  relative?
15 Nov 1723 Elias Dymock to Elizabeth Shute at St Leonards, Pitcombe. Again Pitcombe in the general area.

Couple others -
1/6/1731 Jno Dymock m Sarah Allen, Evercreech
5/2/1735 Thomas Dimock m Mary Garland, Frome

Further back - 21 Jan 1699 Thomas Dimmuck m Eliz. Steuans, St John the Baptist, Frome.

Hope this helps your search, Di

Some food for thought here - thank you.  Elias DYMOCK and Elizabeth SHUTE are related and I have their Wills - that Elias became the Vicar of Hornblotton.
I should have said that William's first child was christened in 1728.  Assuming that they were married when he was born I'm looking for an earlier marriage.  Although Mary, his wife, isn't mentioned until 1732.
I've been quite surprised at how many DYMOCK and variant families were in the area.
I'm obviously going to have to widen my research net.  Thanks for you interest.
