« on: Tuesday 15 April 14 15:27 BST (UK) »
I am new to this site but I am really stuck with one ancestor who I just cannot seem to locate before he came to Australia. I am hoping someone might be able to point me in a direction that I might find a record or something that will lead me to his Birth records and who his parents were. This is all the information I have on him so far.

Here is the info I have.
 James Meredith

In 1958 James made a trip via unassisted travel on board the vessel the cyclone from Britain to Sydney NSW Australia. He married Sophia Harriett Little at Toryburn a district of Armidale NSW, both marking there documents with there mark this was on the 23rd Jan 1860. the documents don't have details of parents place of birth or anything outside of the religion being Church of Scotland.

James Death 10th December 1864, Armidale NSW, he was 38years, he was a farmer/ shearer of Clerkness in the Armidale District. He died of Diptheria and is buried in the Bundarra Cemetery Burial took place December 12 1864.At the time of his death he left his young wife of 19.5years and 3 children. His death certificate Says He came from Herford England with No further details

Here are links to the only 2 documents I have been able to locate I would really appreciate some help on this.

You will get a lot of records on family search by using the parent's name or searching on Ancestry  :) :)

This would appear to be the Meredith family on the 1851, Joseph and Elizabeth were born on Herefordshire, perhaps that is where the link lies to Herford ( ??? )

As transcribed.....

Joseph Meredith   50 Farmer
Elizabeth Meredith   50
Edmond Meredith   11 b. Penalt, Monmouthshire
Mary Meredith   8 b. Penalt, Monmouthshire
William Edwards    lodger 81

If that is his family, here are his parents in 1841 - James isn't with them

HO107; Piece: 747; Book: 17
Penallt Monmouthshire

Joseph Meredith          40  Farmer    not born in county
Elizabeth Meredith   40               not born in county
William Meredith           10               born in county
Joseph Meredith             5               born in county
Edwin Meredith             3               born in county
Edmund Meredith   1                 born in county

Penallt is very near the Welsh/English border, so James could well have been born in Hereford.

The James Meredith, born c1828 Ocle Pitchard, is still around on the 1891 census?

So probably not our man? ;D
