Agnes Russell & James Hynd
« on: Sunday 09 February 14 21:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone  I am trying to verify birth for Agnes Russell She died in Dunfermline Fife Scotland in 1912 (have death cert) at 81 years of age which would put her birth around 1831 which matches cenesus records. lists her parents as Alexander Russell / Jane or Jean Wislon.  She is the widow of James Hynd.  I found a "tree" and records on family search which I can't tell if the are extracted or submitted but It lists her birth as 1818 which would make her 12 years older than James.  Census records have her birth between 1828 & 1831 depending on which one you are looking for.  I am trying to find her actual birthdate.  Her husband James (have his death cert) died in 1894 age 64 which puts his birth at 1830 which also matches the census records.  I searched Sp but can't find an Agnes birth with The listed parents.   Can anybody Help me?   Beans

:P Sorry Beans, this is the one you are worried about as an entry isn't it https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/33FS-MDJ, given you have a later year for your Agnes c. 1828 & 1831.

Have you had any luck trying to find Agnes in 1841?

A guess for 1851....as transcribed:

Jane Ruffell 56 b. Dunfermline, fife
Alexr Ruffell 23 coal miner b. Dunfermline, fife
Peter Russell 19 coal miner b. Dunfermline, fife
Jane Russell 15 Cottier Pinner b. Dunfermline, fife
Elizabeth Russell 9 b. Dunfermline, fife

Address: Parkneuk, Inverkeithing, Fife

Maybe Alexander Snr. has died by now, after birth of Elizabeth aged 9 above?

When did Agnes marry?

Hi Monica yes that is the entry it lists her birth as 1818.  On her death cert it lists her fathers occupation as coal miner.  Another person is trying to tell me all of my information on this family is wrong.  But the death cert puts her birth the same as the census records.  I checked Sp but no Agnes with mother Jane or Jean comes up I searched 1827-1832.  So I am not sure where to go from here.  I couldnt find the marriage record for Agnes and James either but I have them married in 1848 and first son James born about 1850.  I asked Norrie if che would check for tombstone photo also.   Beans

Looking at a/try trees etc...

It may well be that the 1818 birth of an Agnes was a first born Agnes and then the name was re-used? Other people are making the same sort of links/references...

Given the birth years of Alexander Russell and Jean Wilson, not unreasonable.

Jane Wilson's death cert in 1880, her parents are given as James Wilson and Agnes Kirkland. So, first born daughter in 1818 was called Agnes....she died we think. From 1818 up to c. 1829/30 only boys show for Alexander and Jane (Wilson). May then explain why when next daughter since 1818 was born, she was named Agnes?
