Trengrove Area, Menheniot, Cornwall
« on: Sunday 08 September 13 07:00 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I'm trying to find the location of a village called Quarry near Trengrove, as I have family living there in 1851 census. No mention of Quarry in Description of District, but it's between Tregrill and Roseland Foundry when scrolling through each entry.

Hoping someone with local knowledge can help.

Thank you,

AMH

It isn't the name of a town, village or hamlet! ;D

It's a description of the place.
There are numerous slate and granite quarries in Cornwall, particularly around Constantine, where Trengove is located.

Lower Trengrove Quarry was a slate quarry.

From Cornwall Records Office: Nearly every parish has evidence of stone being quarried for specific purposes (building, roofing, paving, roads). These enterprises were often short-lived and only a handful were developed on a large-scale commercial basis.

Thank you for such a quick reply. I wondered about that, but there were 2 or 3 pages of families living at Quarry.

Cheers,
