Frederick Thomas Kingsbury (Help me)
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 15:43 BST (UK) »
Hi , I am going to need some help with this , many years ago i found in an old house a relative had a Death Penny , it was under a table leg to stop it from rocking .
It was for a Frederick Thomas Kingsbury.  I have done some research on him but have been unable to find any living relatives for him .. I would love to return this medal to the correct family , so i am asking for help as by my own admission i am not the best at geneology and have only limited resources and knowlege .
What i know Born 1 Dec 1892 in Camberwell London . Joined up 7/9/1914 killed in action 22/9/1914 ..No known grave .
Parents Frederick Thomas Kingsbury B1864 Kennington? D 1924
Mother was Mary Ann Rothery B1869 Kennington? D 1920
It looks like he had 2 sisters a Mary Ann born 12 Sep 1888 in Walworth  and a Caroline Born 28 Dec 1890  Camberwell and a younger brother John Born
Camberwell circa 1900.

So any suggestions or any help?..Just want to return this to the correct family .

Many thanks Roy Mcknight

Hello Roy,

As my earlier attempt disappeared into the ether, I'll try again.

I have been able to track Caroline Kingsbury forward a little way on FreeBMD.
You may be able to pick it up on Electoral Registers etc.

Marriage: March Qu. 1915 to Walter Augustus J BOYNS. Lambeth 1d 403.

WAJ Boyns was born Sept Qu. 1892. Camberwell 1d 977.

Son: Walter P T Boyns:
Born March Qu. 1917. Camberwell 1d 1313
Died March Qu. 1917. Camberwell 1d 1259

Daughter: Lily E Boyns
Born Sept Qu. 1918. Camberwell 1d 1013

Son: Frederick G Boyns
Born June Qu. 1929. Camberwell 1d 1054

I also had a look at Service and Civilian deaths on CWGC for WW2, but couldn't see any likely family.

Dear Roy.
Frederick was the brother of my stepfather John Kingsbury, who died in 1969 his  son Raymond my stepbrother born 1948 is as far as I know the only male Kingsbury from Frederick family still alive, we lived at Albany Road in Camberwell the old cottage the Kingsbury lived at was at 24 Boundary Lane  it was pulled down during the 1930 in order to build a children's park in Albany road, Frederick was killed  by enemy artillery shells as the regiment was accepting the surrender of German prisoners of war a cold and deadly introduction to what lay before them, his body was never found, His name is mentioned, in the De Ruvignys roll of Honour, Dad who joined the same regiment and was wounded by shrapnel later in the war. If you would like to get in touch with Raymond or would need further knowledge of Frederick please let me know.

Seems unlikely he would have joined up on the date you mention. At that early stage of the war the more usual scenario would have been for soldiers to be fully trained regulars or reservists recalled to the colours.

From his service number, he would have enlisted in 1913, probably the first half.
His date of entry into France is 7th September 1914 (not the date he joined up as in post#1)
