Headon, Hayden - Blessington
« on: Saturday 10 May 14 01:37 BST (UK) »
I started out with a Catherine Hayden b. c.1848 Co. Kildare arriving in Moreton Bay,  Aust aboard Wanata 14 Feb 1863 along side her older sisters Bridget b. c.1844 and Eliza b. c. 1846. Parents Martin Hayden and Mary Bain, occupation Blacksmith.

Utilizing the rootsireland.ie search without paying for the individual records I've found Catherine b.1849, Bridget b. 1843 and Eliza b. 1846 with Martin and Mary as parents and I've narrowed the parish to Blessington RC. In addition to these children I found Mary b. 1844 and Michael b. 1850. The spelling in all 5 instances is Headon.

I am not as successful finding a marriage for Martin and Mary in this way. But there is one for a Martin in 1839 at Athy RC, Co. Kildare.  Just not to a Mary Bain.

Would love to be in touch with anyone intrested in this family. If anyone has any ideas as to finding more info without spending 5 euros per extracted entry, please share.

The RootsIreland search index has an 1842 church marriage for a Martin Hayden to a Mary Behan in County Kildare,  the parish/district is Newbridge Roman Catholic.

Brilliant! Thank you!

I assume Behan is pronounced 'bane', correct?

Can be, here's a couple of examples of people pronouncing Brendan Behan, the famous Irish novelist / poet / playwright, which is pretty well the way I would say it:
