I have the edition of the book entitled "Children of the Sea", published by Tuckwell Press.  On page 202, in the the list of those lost on the Guiding Star, is:-

"THOMAS FISHER, aged 30.  Left a widow who gave birth to Thomasina Fisher on 16 December 1881.  Their other dependent children were William, Alice, Janet, Elizabeth and Ann."

There was also a Robert Fisher lost on the Beautiful Star - he was aged 24.  "No noted dependents." (page 200)

Thank you caraid also lizci - yes that is the family (Thomas):  I did not have 'proof'', it was only mentioned by elderly relatives in the family years ago when talking about this particular family tree. I believe I can also trace Robert. Everyone has been so helpful.

You're absolutely right Beckey.  My eyes must have seen Edward, but for some reason my brain said Robert.  Apologies!

When you say you have found an Edward Fisher can you tell me if he was married or is only the name recorded?

There isn't any more information about Edward - just "EDWARD FISHER, aged 24.  No noted dependants."

That would seem to suggest he wasn't married ... certainly many of the men listed are shown as having left a widow (sometimes named, sometimes not) and dependant children are named.  A number of the widows appear to have given birth in the few months after the disaster.

hi elizabethh,

Just a note, some of the widows either remarried or took up with another man, they had their children to consider.
