Hi everyone
It is some time since I have been here so I hope I havent jumped into an incorrect area - again...
My great grandmother, Elizabeth Moore, was married in 1878 to my great grandfather, William Thomas. Her age was recorded as 22 but maybe she was actually 26. I have put details of their marriage on the Cornwall OPC.
I have plenty of information on my great grandfather now and am pretty certain my records for him are correct. However, Elizabeth is proving difficult so I'm not really sure only hopeful that I now have the correct one.
I am thinking she is Elizabeth Ann Moore, born in Tywardreath on 1 May 1852. Father was William Moore and mother Betsy Moore, formerly Harris.
Elizabeth and William's marriage certificate indicates that a Charles and Mary William were witnesses at their wedding. In an 1861 England Census there is a record, very pale, of an Elizabeth Ann Moore, age 9, with mother, Betsey Moore, Tywardreath. It also mentions brothers John and Richard and an older sister, Mary Jane, who may be the Mary Moore that married Charles Williams in 1869. I havent sent for that record yet - maybe I should have thought to do that much earlier.
An 1871 England Census records an Elizabeth Moore, born in Tywardreath, working in St Blazely as a servant. I do know that 'our' Elizabeth eventually went on to manage boarding houses.
Elizabeth married William in 1878. Their first child was born in Bodmin Gaol in 1879 as they both did 3 months hard labour for stealing that year - hence all the secrets and name changes possibly.
I'm wondering therefore if I have the correct one - was she born Elizabeth Ann Moore - married as Elizabeth Moore to William Thomas - and then eventually she died as Elizabeth Ellen Thomas in South Australia - as she was still keeping secrets.
Is this the best I can do - or what can I do better?
Thank you everyone
