I am trying to find the parents (and further back if possible) for:

Joseph Ward
Birth 04 Sep 1816 in  Blaby,Leicestershire,,United Kingdom   Death 09 Aug 1888 in  Countesthorpe,Leicestershire,,United Kingdom. Married to Mary Burley

I just can't seem to get any further back. Can anyone help?

There is a christening of a Joseph Ward on 4th September 1816 child of Austin and Sarah at Blaby

that could be him - where did you secure his birth date? could have been christened on the day he was born

Alternatively, if he is the Joseph Ward though that married the Mary Burley in Marylebone, London on 16 April 1854, the marriage certificate gives Joseph's father as Thomas Ward.  Looking though your Joseph is already married to a Mary by the 1851 census living in Countesthorpe so is Mary definitely Mary Ann Burley or have you got another marriage earlier on?

This could be the birth registration for Joseph & Mary's son William, that would give Mary's maiden name

William Ward b 1840 is the son of Joseph and Mary and it looks likely that Austin and Sarah are Josephs parents, definitely not the Marylebone couple.
