St Peter's in Leicester
« on: Friday 05 September 14 13:10 BST (UK) »
Hi
Just wondering if someone could clarify for me where the old St Peter's area used to be.  I have a vague idea (somewhere around Northgate Street/West Bridge???)  but would appreciate a clearer picurre - or even a map if possible.  I'm particularly looking for Leamington Street in 1886.  Thank you :)

Have you tried here:
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html

If you enter a street name that you know exists today, you can select an appropriate old map from the selection on the right, then you should be able to locate the street you are looking for.

It can be a bit tricky to use, but worth persevering.

You can see Leamington Street on the 1930 1:2,500 map at  http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=457838,304183 there is a larger 1:500 Town Plan as well.

many of us use old-maps, co.uk, I personally prefer the one above but you do need a bit of geographic knowledge
