Thanks.
I found a tree online which takes me back to 1510  :o Quite how that was achieved I don`t know.
The only problem is that it works backwards from Samuel Lindop, bapt 1810, I need to be certain that this is also the line for John Lindop bc 1816 who I hope is his brother.

I may have been a little excited by  the name Lindop in my earlier reply!Though you could be confused in that one particular Tree is undecided whether a John Lindop born in Ellesmere in 1814 is the father of the Frances I mentioned or whether it was the one born in Gwersyllt.I actually prefer the one born in Ellesmere in 1814 who married an Emma Lea at Ruabon in 1850.

Emma Lea though is definitely the mother of Frances!

Thanks, yes the John Lindop in fact was born in Broxton Cheshire in 1814.The birth of Francis Lea(Lindop) will be found under Ellesmere Shropshire in 1845.The Penley Parish Registers(Births) which I have list Frances as the illegitimate child of Emma Lea baptised 09/11/1845.

Just as a cautionary note there are a few Wrexham based marriages in the Wales Marriage Bonds at NLW

1777 Samuel Lindop  and Elizabeth Trevor
1790 Samuel Lindop(widower) and Pamela Thomas

1809 John Lindop, baker,Chester, and Mary Hughes

I`m concentrating on trying to find if John Lindop born Gwersyllt / Gresford c 1816 was the brother of Samuel born Gresford 1810. Hope fully both sons of Samuel and Mary Evans.
If I can confirm this, then I can be practically sure that the online tree is correct.

Jill Rose has no baptisms for Lindops at Gresford  and they don`t seem to show on FindMyPast.

There are Bishops Transcripts for Gresford which have Samuel Lindop son of Samuel, a farmer,  and Mary, of Gwersyllt,  baptised on 27 May 1821. The trouble is it also shows that he was born "4 May".

It's a puzzle as the Samuel we see in the 1841-1871 censuses was clearly born circa 1808-1811.

Haven't found a baptism for John yet.

Right here we are in the same BT's, a baptism at Gresford on 23 April 1815, John Lindop,  born 6 April,  parents Saml & Mary of Gwersyllt, farmer.

If you are looking on FindMyPast it is transcribed there as Lindon.

Thanks ShaunJ.  I look at FindMyPast to give me some clues, but am not subscribed.

This is interesting as I live in Gwersyllt, in Samuels will 1842 he leaves land in Gwersyllt to his son Samuel.
I would like to take a look at the tithe maps to see where it was.
