Ships sailing to America circa 1860
« on: Tuesday 10 April 12 12:43 BST (UK) »
In my husbands family is a Master Mariner, who resided in Thurso and Castletown.  Oral family history states that he was 'lost at sea' on an outbound or return trip to/from America.  This occurred sometime in the early 1860's.  What if any ships might have sailed from this area to America?  I wondered if the flagstones at Castletown (which were used in New York) might have been shipped out from this area.  Any help would be appreciated.
