Naturalization Records?
« on: Friday 21 November 14 16:02 GMT (UK) »
I've an on/off thread going on the Canada Board re Charles Stewart Brady.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=597572.0

C. S. Brady (senior) was living in Brooklyn when he signed up for  the Canadian Army in 1916.
He said he was an American citizen.
Is there any way of finding out more about this?

Incidentally, I have all the info about his ancestors, and his descendants, and his WWI service (apart from the date/place of his marriage to Mildred Equi - probably ~1916).

In a book/magazine on Google books called Boot and Shoe Recorder, Volume 64 from 1914, it says "Brady & Scott, New York City, dealers in leather, etc., $20,000, Charles S. Brady, No. 2100 Albemarle Road, Brooklyn."  That matches the address mentioned on the other thread.

Thank you , shellyesq (I think you've helped me before)

and thank you , Sandra, again.
I downloaded Charles' senior's WWI records in the last few days, and on page 7 of the pdf (his Medical History Sheet), it says American Citizen.
(I've had a Senior moment, and I can't figure whether I got this WWI stuff through a link from Sandra, or by Googling?) . . . . www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage .... etc

Do you have a passenger list for him when he first came to the US or Canada?  If not, do you have an exact place of birth or place where he lived in Ireland?

I don't have a passenger list.
The "family story" is that he went to Canada in about 1908.

He was born in Dublin North in1881, and lived in 2/3 addresses a few miles north of Dublin city centre, probably until mid 1890s, when his mother remarried.
I don't know where they were for 1901 Census, haven't been able to find them. The mother died, back in Dublin North in 1906 - I think separated from her new husband.

Don't know if it's been pointed out on here (or other thread) but marriage gives father as Nicholas whereas death certificate says Michael?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I noticed that.
Nicholas is correct. I have all those details from way back - some of the birth certs(not C.S.), baptisms, will index, grave in Glasnevin.
Charles junior was in contact with the family when he was interned in Ireland, and I have his file from Portobello Bks - there's a letter from him to my parents-in-law etc..

I'm not sure where they got Michael, but I've seen this mistake other places.
A written (not typed) Michl can look quite like a Nichls .. in another part of the family, the mistake is the other way!
