Yes, this is the right place. Edinburgh is in Midlothian.

However finding the burial place may not be quite so easy.

The burial records are in the care of Edinburgh Council but without knowing which burial ground it is impossible to search. You have to tell them which cemetery you want to took in, and some of the books are so big and heavy that they have special trolleys for bringing them out to you!

If there is a gravestone, you might find that someone has photographed and/or transcribed it. However not everyone has a stone.

I would have a look in

If there isn't a stone it will be harder.

There might perhaps have been a notice in The Scotsman newspaper, which can be searched online. There is a charge, but some RootsChatters have subscriptions to it and would be able to tell you whether or not there is such a notice if you tell us the name and exact date of death.

If that fails, then you will need to find out which burial grounds were near where your relative lived. Or, if they came into the city from outside, might they have been taken home for burial?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

James Heatlie  (Cabinetmaker) died 21 April 1893 aged 51 at 12 Valleyfield Street Edinburgh from Epithelioma of rectum and advised by his son William J. Heatlie.   His will and inventory are available at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and according to the Valuation Roll of 1895 his wife Jessie was owner of 12 Valleyfield - Tollcross/Bruntsfield Links area of Edinburgh

12/05/1893
12 VALLEYFIELD STREET, EDINBURGH, CABINETMAKER, D. 21/04/1893 AT EDINBURGH, TESTATE
WILL
EDINBURGH SHERIFF COURT WILLS

Nothing is listed in the Scotsman archives of that period.

if you have the place and date of death of your relative email the following address and ask if they can locate your relative's grave:

mortonhallcrematorium@edinburgh.co.uk

I did this a few of years ago and the very next day I received an email giving me the details of where and when my great grandmother was buried in Edinburgh  :)
