Marriage help for Elizabeth Douglas
« on: Thursday 03 April 14 16:17 BST (UK) »
I am having trouble finding any kind of sources for the marriage of Elizabeth Douglas (b. 1681) daughter of Herny Douglas and Martha Lockhart. According to many trees she married a Richard Alexander but no records have been given to prove this is correct. Also I have not found any records showing the birth of children for Elizabeth Douglas. According to the fore mentioned trees she had a son named John Alexander who came to America. Again no records are available to prove the relationship are given. Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. I have looked into the Scotland People records and Family Search as well.

Blessings

Hi Kevin

You mention Richard Alexander as a possible husband to Elizabeth. I am seeing a Robert instead on trees?

I can only really see two marriages for the children of Henry and Martha (as previously discussed in other posts). The one for eldest George who took on the title from his father Henry  https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYMH-48M and possibly for Martha https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XYMX-Y77

Regarding Martha Douglas and marriage, this fits well here:

Mr. John, junior, advocate, brother-german to Patrick M. of Livingstone ; Martha Douglas, eldest lawful dau. of Henry D., writer pro. 4 Apr. 1697
http://archive.org/stream/registerofmarria33edin/registerofmarria33edin_djvu.txt

This combines well with the entry you put up on the Deciphering board and Henry's occupation of Writer.

Elizabeth eludes though so far in terms of formal records...although there are lots of trees on line with further info supposedly relating to her and family.

Monica, again you are quite right on the trees out there but none that I have seen has sources that back up the theory of Robert Alexander. I will definitely use the George information you provided to make the Lockhart Douglas line stronger. I sure appreciate your help Monica. Thank you
