I've never had the need to search land titles in NSW so can't help you with your request.  From the linked article it appears to be a lease.  Perhaps make a new request and link this thread.

Have you browsed the NSW Resources board?

Good luck.

Thank you for even more information. Much appreciated.
I have found that Joseph David Dent owned 28 acres of land on which there were Orange and lemon Trees and Vines.
He was selling this in the 'West Australian' Newspaper in Feb 1900.
J. D. DENT,Hectorville, near Payneham, South Australia

Interestingly his cousin Henry Richardson also had a fruit farm at 'Wattle Bank' Bago.

Dear All,
Thank you everyone for all your  help with Joseph David Dent. I appreciate the time and effort made.

I was looking through Cando's posts and found this at the bottom of each:-

Remember that everything is only speculation until verified!!!!

So I got to thinking that the funny thing is, through this large amount of info, I still have no reference to him being the son of Joseph Dent in Brackenbar, Nr Appleby Westmorland England or anything to suggest he came from that area.

I have been looking on the Trove site as I thought there may be an obituary with some history but no luck. So although I am fairly sure it is him because everything fits, I still have not actually verified it.
Again his daughter was called Florence Mary Eleanor - and I know it is just a pointer but his mother and sister were called Mary which is a common name, but he also had a sister called Eleanor - which is quite an unusual name.

As I am in England & as he is not my direct ancestor I can not justify the cost of sending for a marriage cert.

The reason why I am so interested, besides being part of my family, is I am trying to see just how many of my farming ancestors, and why they went out to Australia around that time. They were not all younger sons and some of the older sons inherited a farm over here - what made so many of them emigrate? I have over a dozen around his age or older, who must have all known each other, emigrate.

I take it that Joseph David Dent would have been the one baptised 13 September 1846 at St.Michael's, Appleby with parents Joseph and Mary.    There was a sister called Tamar born at Brackenber in 1838 and Joseph married Mary Kersey in 1822, so J.D. was quite a late arrival.  Perhaps it might be worth trying to contact Tamar's descendants.  She married a John Balmer in 1863 and was buried at New Shildon Co. Durham on 16 July 1870. See http://familytree.chasegray.co.uk/4207.htm   then go to the Home Page where you can click on an email contact.

Hi Malcolm,
Thank you for the reply.
I have traced Tamar already and unfortunately her only son died at birth in 1867 then she died very soon after in 1870. However I am in touch with some ancestors of other  brothers who I could email to see if they have any info.

Will let you know if they know anything.

This thread has found a great deal of information about a Joseph David DENT and I agree with you that there is still not 100% proof although there are some clues which imply that he is the man you seek.

For example: the 1872 TROVE marriage notice for Joseph David DENT says that he is "of Adelong NSW" so if you are satisfied that the other DENTs in Adelong are your family then it seems highly likely that this is your man.

Do you have this marriage certificate?  Australian marriage certificates provide much information and should tell you the bridegroom's full name, occupation, place of residence, conjugal status, place and date of birth, age, father's name and mother's maiden name.  Of course this will depend on the information supplied - I have seen certificates which give the birthplace as just England.   >:(

A transcription is much cheaper (about $AU20) and quicker than ordering from the NSW BMD site.  There are three approved transcription agents listed - all provide good service. (Scroll to the bottom of the page)

Thank you Judith,
Yes I am sure about the other Dents being from this family as they have been well sourced by other members.

I have looked at a tree on a well known site and have sent a message asking about Joseph David Dent  to see if they have any documentation.  It was just a few days ago so I shall have to be patient. Ha! Ha! :D

Will post if I get a reply.

Hope the weather is cooler with you now and the thunder storms have moved away.

Just a quick update. No have not had a reply but found this in the Newspaper.
'The Register Adelaide 11 July 1905
Personal notes from England
From our special correspondent The Register Office Fleet St London July 9th
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Dent left to-day for the Cumberland Lakes to visit relatives in Mr. Dent's native country. They will continue their journey to Scotland, and after visiting the chief places of interest in Edinburgh and Glasgow they propose to go further north to see some of the beauty spots popular . with tourists,, and will probably be absent from London for five or six weeks.'

If they are going to visit the Cumberland Lakes to visit relative  then his sister lived in Penrith Cumberland right on the edge of the Lake District.
So although it is not proof of who his father was it is heading in the right direction!!! :) :D
