Burials in Wepre (Connahs Quay) 1872 and 1876
« on: Sunday 27 April 14 19:28 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,
Could anyone please help me discover the burial place of my ancestor and his daughter?
Details I have are: William Evans, died January 1872 "near Horse and Hounds, Wepre".
His daughter's was Sarah Ann Oldfield, address in 1871 "near Horse and Hounds, Wepre".
Sarah Ann Oldfield died in 1876, death registered in Holywell, Flintshire.

Hope someone out there can point me in the right direction. William and Sarah Ann were originally from Runcorn, so not Welsh born.

Thank you.

You've given a strong indication as to your own answer in your titling of this thread.Wepre was in the Parish of Connahs Quay.

Sarah is buried at St. Mark's Church, Connahs' Quay.

There is an entry of her burial in the register (on FindMyPast) on August 24th 1876, aged 42. Her abode is  listed only as Connah's Quay.

Below is the link for a map of Connahs' Quay. If you click on the box for the 1870 map, you will see in section 16 the 'Hare and Hounds'.

To Trish 18 my very grateful thanks for the information on Sarah Ann Oldfield's burial at St. Marks, Connahs Quay. Now I just need to find out if her father William Evans, who died at her address of "near the Hare and Hound" in January 1872 was also buried there. I have now almost completed what has been a long search, and these are the final pieces of a large puzzle.
Again thanks so much Trish.

To Trish 18
Armed with the information you supplied about the place and date of death for Sarah Ann Oldfield at St Marks, Connahs Quay, I telephoned Flintshire Records Office with the hope that they had a record of a burial at St Marks of her father, William Evans in 1872. And Bingo they have such a record. So thanks to you I have found the resting place of my g.g.grandfather, after a long search up and down the canals and rivers on which he worked as a Master Mariner, coasting. Although he was born in Runcorn, Cheshire, and lived in Toxteth park, Liverpool, there were no burial records of him in either place. So it was a shot in the dark that he might have gone to his daughter who had moved from Runcorn to Connahs Quay about 1869. When I checked her on the Wales 1871 census her address was the same as on the death certificate for her father, so from then on the clues started to fall into place.
My grateful thanks, you helped me finish the puzzle.
Kindest regards
