Hi,

Is anyone researching the name 'Canning' ? I am looking for a Charles canning born c.1800 somewhere in Donegal.

Charles went to Canada and was witness on the burial record of Robert McVitty in Canada in 1872, where he states he was Robert's first cousin - unusual to find this on a burial record, and very helpful!!! Now by my reckoning if they were indeed first cousins a parent of each would have been brother/sister?? So I'm looking for a Canning/McVitty/Kilpatrick link at the moment.

On the Canadian census Charles was born in Ireland, as were his sons Robert and Richard.

Any help gratefully received!!

Thanks very much - that's a later generation but gives me a good idea where in Donegal to look, also interesting Christian names, some replicated in Canada.
