Quinn, Goland, Ballybofey, Donegal
« on: Wednesday 11 June 14 10:34 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate living relatives of the Quinn family from the Ballybofey area.
Margaret Quinn, daughter of John and Catherine, married Peter Curneen from Keeloges, Co. Leitrim. When he died in 1975 Margaret returned to Goland and I presume is buried there.

Records suggest she has brothers John b. 1898 and Hugh b 1900 and sister Susan b. 1896.

Has anyone with local knowledge, any knowledge of the family.

Having carried out further research it appears that the details of the above post are incorrect. The Quinn details should read as follows:

Margaret Josephine Quinn b. 15th March 1902
Fathers name Bernard Quinn b. 1840 Mother Mary Anne Doherty b. 1872
Margaret had six other siblings all from Goland, Ballybofey
Mary-Ann, John, Jane, Bridget, Kathleen and Bernard.

Thanks for that. I learned since that Margaret left Ballybofey in 1923 and sailed to New York where she worked as a maid to two elderly people in the city. By 1940 she met and married my wifes great uncle Peter Curneen who had travelled from Keeloges, Leitrim. They returned to Leitrim together and set up home in the Curneen heartland of Glenade and lived there until shortly after Peter died in 1975. Margaret erected a Curneen family gravestone for Peter and his parents at Conwal Cemetery and she returned to Donegal, where she died.
