Hello ruthsaff,

In 1784 the Game Certificate Act was passed. This made it compulsory for anyone (Landowners, Gamekeepers etc) who shot or hunted game to pay for a Certificate costing 2 guineas per annum. (Gamekeepers 10 shillings 6 pence)
Annual Game Lists of names of people who obtained Certificates were printed countrywide. This could be why Thomas Trotter Esq. of Blackford appears in Edinburgh Advertiser re: General Certificate - Game Duty.

               Regards,     Dod.
