Smail - Kelso

Hi,

After posting a query on the Northumberland, England board, it looks as though the Smail ancestors I am researching came from Kelso and surrounding areas.

Thomas Smail (born Roxburghshire 1888) married Margaret Thomson in Jedburgh in 1915.

It looks as though their son, also called Thomas Smail was born in Newcastle in 1919.

Does anybody know if there were other children born to Thomas and Margaret in Scotland?

I think Thomas senior died in Newcastle in 1937, but I can't find a death for Margaret in England.

Thomas senior was the son of Samuel Smail (1860-1929) and Wilhelmina (Mennie) Hope.

I am interested in this Samuel Smail, particularly his career in the police force.

He was the son of Joseph Yair Smail and Maney Fox.

If anybody has any info on Samuel and his wife, (and his career in the police force), and his parents or siblings I would be interested to see it.

You can get records for marriage and death on Scotlands People or Edinburgh and the Mitchell Library Glasgow ....Not sure about the police records but you could maybe send letter to the police station and ask them where the records would be

Hi,

I am now looking for the marriage details of William Hope Smail if anybody can find it?

He was born in 1885 and was the son of Samuel Smail and Wilhelmina Hope.

I think he had a son called Alexander Smail who attended Kelso high school and who later became a policeman in the Edinburgh constabulary.
