Bosson family
« on: Tuesday 30 August 11 12:31 BST (UK) »
I have been researching the Bosson family in Devon (1790 to 1900).  I have hit a brick wall with Thomas Bosson died 1823 in Stoke Rivers, Devon born about 1738.  He had (at least) 4 children John, Thomas, Ann, Mary all of whom were not born in Devon.  Thomas Snr and son John b1771 were yeoman at Stoke Rivers until 1802.

I'm guessing Thomas may have come from Cheshire - does anyone have any information or clues they can share.

Hello Dormouse56 Welcome to RootsChat ;D

If you have a look here:

http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/

There are a family of Bosson , father Thomas, mother Mary, living in the Nantwich area around the 1780's early 90's don't see a burial for Thomas at first glance, so might indicate he moved.

Hello Gwerninion,

Thank you for that link - I'd been searching for Cheshire parish records.  The names and dates are close - but not quite as John and his siblings married around 1800-02.  Unless of course they were either baptised later than their birth (ie John b1771 and baptised 1789) !!

Thanks for the info though as good reference lookup

Hi Pastmagic ,

Thats very kind of you to look for these.  I had found the land tax records where Thos paid tax from 1796 to 1803 incl.  his son John was with him for a couple of those years until he moved away for abt 12 months.

I have the photos too of the gravestonestoo, though thank you for checking those.  I have quite a lotof info on our Devon 'mob'  however its trying to find the link that the offspring "were not born in Devon so where were they born" thats the problem!

Thanks for all your help though.

Whilst researching my Boston family tree I have found that a great great grandfather Peter Boston who married in 1824 was born Peter Bosson in Bradwall, Sandbach, Cheshire in 1799. I have therefore now started to  move my early searches to Bosson, Whilst looking through St Marys Sandbach parish records I have come across a few variations (BOFSON, BOSSON,BOSSEN) due to 18th century ligatures changing st to ft. Whilst making notes of various baptism, marriage & burial records I have recorded that a Thomas son of John and Sarah Bofson was baptised on 28/3/1738 in Hafsall in Cheshire (Hafsall is now Hassall) a village outside Sandbach. I've no idea if this is the Thomas you seek but I hope it might help.

Hello I was reading through this chat session and saw you mention a John Bosson b 1771 I did find a john bossen b 1771 whos father is peter bossen. I am going down my tree with the information I have which is George Bosson b1830( and also from another relative George b1813) father is Joseph Bossen b1802 whose father is John bossen born 1771 father was Peter. How I get to this George is a George Bosson married Mary Rhead who Had James Rhead Bosson b1859 staffordshire who had Frederick Bosson b1881 who is my gr Grandfather.
Anyway where I am confused is that I was given a copy of Georges Death certificate which states that he died at the age of 54 in 1871. I have heard that he was married twice and one certificate states his father is George and the other his father was Joseph.
So I am wondering if anyone can help me with my confusion. Please Help....
