It is my direct family line, john their son, married Charlotte Amelia Dyer, known as Amelia. John Obree's father was Thomas Obree, on the marriage in 1864 in Canterbury John is the right age, his father is Thomas Obree, there was no other John Obree of the correct age for it to be anyone else. There is no Mercy Obree at any time in the census, also no death for a Mercy Obree and no record of them leaving the UK.

Sammy.

That entry (on FindMyPast) shows the marriage in 1866.
Mercy Neighbour born 1842

OK got it!

And here it is for all to see to save us all struggling

Dire image, so this is transcription only -

Bray, Berks
Thomas 34
ELizabeth 40
Frances 17
Catherine 9
Samuel 7
Mary 3   (can just about make out image for her, and yes, it could well be Mercy)

But it is still a HUGE leap from this 3 year old Mercy in Berkshire in 1841 to the 30 year old Eliza in 1871 in Kent, who was having Obree children before the Mercy married an Obree.

From the 1841 image I am looking at Mercy looks more like 2 than 3, but probably not worth quibbling about!

And as I said, Mercy is recorded as 24 in 1866 at the marriage with father Thomas Neighbour. Which does match up with Eliza in 1871 as Mercy could have been born 1841 or 42 according to that.

I dont think you can make any worthwhile progress with this without getting the birth cert of either Cicely or John, to establish the mothers name and maiden name.

That will then confirm if the marriage to Mercy Neighbour a few years later has any direct relevance.

If their mother turns out to be Eliza nee something-other-than-neighbour, then we can forget Mercy for now, unless further research in the light of the birth cert info brings it back into play.

Except we have established that the Mercy Neighbour was born 1838 - see about 5 or 6 replies back.
And if she was born 1842 (or late 1841) she wouldnt be the girl on that 1841 census!

I understand that, but at the same time there was only one Mercy Neighbour, and her father in the census was Thomas and at the marriage was Thomas, there was no other birth of anyone called Mercy Neighbour and there certainly is no Mercy Neighbour in the 1851 census with or without a father called Thomas, which leads me to think it has to be the same one.
