It's a bit disappointing in its lack of detail

23rd July 1889  Registry Office iLeicester

Lewis HART, 31 bachelor, a tailor, 36 Samuel Street
father's name not given in the space provided

Fanny Louisa WOOD 30 spinster , 44 Queen Street, Rutland Street, Leicester
father Job WOOD, a butcher

Witnesses: Harry Marks and Emily Shelton

 :( :(
What a shame that there's no father named for Lewis and that neither witness has the same surname to indicate a possible relative.

Looking at the censuses below it doesn't look as if Fanny had a sister called Emily - so perhaps
they were friends of the couple  :-\

You have probably already found these details out already but just in case……

This is the only Fanny Wood I could find with a father named Job

Ladyhawk, you're a star!
All that research on Fanny's family in Leicester, all the way to her father's demise in Pershore.  That's a lovely little town (on the Severn, I think).  Went there years ago in a big old barge and moored for few hours as part of a holiday.
At least Fanny's WOOD family origins have been traced back by all your assiduous work on those Censuses.  But there's a lot of difficult work ahead trying to discover (if ever) where exactly Louis HART came into the world...
Thanks so much again...
Keith
...at least Fanny was being helpful to posterity in the fact she gave us the details of her father even though he had been dead for three years when she married Louis.  In many cases we would simply have been left with "father deceased", or a blank space...

Strewth............just glanced over the comments.  My husband is a descendant of Louis Hart and Fanny Wood. I have a copy of his birth and death certificates.  His father is named as LOUIS LEVY and mother AMELIA HART. Does this help?

Hi, Jacqui, and welcome to Rootschat!
Are you able to tell me from which of Louis HART's male descendants your husband is descended?  Or did you mean that you had a copy of the birth and death certificate of Louis HART himself, that he became named Louis HART at birth, taking his surname from his mother and his forename from his father?
Slightly confused -  and the rules on here are that only after you have made three posts can you be contacted by PM (Personal Message) if you want to be more confidential about living people.  So if you could respond here another couple of times, we can do it that way, if you like…
Regards, Keith
All very exciting, I hasten to add…!

Hi Keith
My husband is a descendant of Louis Hart's eldest daughter Gertrude. Certificates are of Louis himself and yes, surname from mother. Happy to private message after the required minimum messages!
Interested to know where you fit in!
Regards Jacqui

Hi again, Jacqui…
Wow, I'd always assumed as Louis/Lewis gave his birthplace as Poland that it would be almost impossible to ever see his birth certificate.  If you post on here one more time then we can exchange information via PM.
So your husband is descended from Lilian Gertrude HART, born in June quarter 1892 in Stroud…
Keith

Hi Keith
Certificate says 1857 Whitechapel. Who knows if this correct - was amongst paperwork with other certificates. Will be in contact again tomorrow or Monday.
