So, if his birthday was 1 November 1914 and the date of marriage was 8 April 1933, then that would make him 18??

Based on the information I have, what is the likelihood that this is the same person and his age was incorrectly recorded when he was married?

To me it seems you have the correct family
The age recorded on marriage cert would be the age he gave -
Could you post names of witnesses from marriage cert?
And do you know of any siblings he had?

Hi Suz

The names of the witnesses look like William Thomas and Ambrose Skuse.

I don't know if he had any siblings, but the BMD search does throw up 4 sisters when searched with the surname Stock and mother's maiden name of Keen between 1908 and 1940.

Their names are: Winifred F, Ivy G, Lily K, and Doris G. Their births were all registered in Bristol, but Sidney's was registered in Bridgend.

We know Winifred Florence was his sister -she was on their father's military records and recorded as b Bristol -Sidney was b. Ogmore Vale Glamorgan and his father address as llewellyn St Ogmore Vale -so maybe they married in Bristol area  moved to Ogmore Vale for a while before moving back to Bristol
Can't anyone in your family remember any mention of Aunts or Uncles?

There is an Ambrose Skuse in Bristol who looks a candidate for one of the witnesses - he married Sept qtr 1933 (few months after Sidney) wonder if they were related or just friends?

why did you look for children between the years 1908-1940?
Sidney's parents married 1911 and his father died 1922 age 30

I've tried not to make any assumptions that I'm on the right track, hence the broad date range on the BMD search. It does seem that it is the right person though.

Hi, I've just come across this post from 2014, so I expect you have had further info since.

my mother was Winifred Stock (deceased) and her brother was Sidney Stock. He emigrated to Australia and the family including his mother, lost all contact until the Salvation Army located him. He had become a successful businessman, something to do with coaches, but never returned to the U.K. Hope this is of some help.
