Could anyone tell me anything about this company?? I believe they have something to do with Electric Railways? I have tried googling it but havent the foggiest what im looking at?!
I have a relative who is listed on their death certificate as being the President of this company.

There is a add for the company at http://is.gd/Z59EfQ The company apparently dates from 1883.

A commutator is a part of an electric motor or generator.
Specifically it is the part of the motor that the carbon brushes run on that feed current to or from the rotating armature windings. Thats it in a very very basic nutshell.
Have a look in Wikipedia for a simple explanation.
The company would have made the commutator and probably the brush holders for electric motors and generators.
