Reckon you might need to visit Surrey History Centre?

St John the Baptist, Ancient Parish, and St James, Croydon Common were the 2 churches active at the time of his birth.

Parish Registers are at Surrey History Centre.
It's possible that his birth wasn't registered (GRO)?

THat marriage is the only James Baker to an Amy that I can find?
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Registration was introduced in 1837, but it was the Registrars job to obtain the details of the birth. If the parents didnt come forward with the information, many births were missed --particularly in the big cities

Compulsory registration didnt start till around the mid 1870's from memory

What makes you think "Wing" isnt an english name? Sounds very english to me!
Wainwright - Yorkshire
Whitney - Herefordshire
Watson -  Northamptonshire
Trant - Yorkshire
Helps - all
Needham - Derbyshire
Waterhouse - Derbyshire
Northing - all

Registration  of  Births  started   in  1837,   but    it  wasn't  till  1874/5  I  think ,( not too sure  exact  year) that   they  began to  impose fines  on  people who  didn't  register ,   up  till  then there were   people that  thought  as  long  as a  child was baptised  that  would do

Ancestry   is where I found   1841    info    and Baptism record  for Amy
