more SNADDON'S...
« on: Wednesday 20 May 09 02:47 BST (UK) »
I'm stuck again (this is beginning to become a bit of a regular occurance!!!)

I'm looking for the birth record of Thomas Snaddon (born ~1801), according to his death cert, parents are James SNADDON and Isabella HUNTER, for whom I can find neither death or wedding certs. SP is letting me down!!!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks :)
Snaddon (and variations... of which there appear to be many...)

SP is letting me down!!!

Sometimes (usually!) it's not SP that is at fault.
The records are recorded as they have been transcribed.
It's sometimes useful to be vague in your searches - I usually try to aim to get 25 results for each credit.

Sorry if this is all stuff you have Heather.

Children on IGI.....

James  08 JUL 1793 / 14 JUL 1793
William 15 JUN 1797 / 18 JUN 1797
Joseph 10 JUL 1799 / 12 JUL 1799
Thomas 04 JUL 1795 / 5 JUL 1795
Isabel  04 FEB 1809 / 12 FEB 1809

There are actually 29 entries on IGI so I've not looked individually.  The above is a summary.  I assume it could be births and baptisms.  Whether they are submitted or extracted records, I've not checked.

Dave, I found those records yesterday, but I'm not sure that they are the right ones, going by Thomas' death cert; there is a 10 year age descrepincy between my Thomas, and the thomas to parents James SNADAN and Isabel (Bell) SNADAN. I can understand him randomly inheriting 2-3 years, but 10 seems like a bit of a leap...
I THINK I found Thomas in the 1841 & 1851 census, which has his birth year as approx 1806.

Ok, what I have so far (just to make things a little more confusing!!!!)

- Going by Thomas' death cert, he was born around 1801, parents listed as
   James and Isabella HUNTER
- The IGI has a record of his marriage, the date confirms what I have, no idea
where they got his birth year from, but they've put it at 1793, no parents
   listed.
- Have found birth records on IGI for all of Thomas' kids, which matches up with
the census records, suggesting his birth around 1806
- Is a birth record for a Thomas SNADON, born 4 Jul 1795 in Alloa to James and Isabel SNADON

I'm confused...

Do not jump to conclusions Heather.
However, the differences in dob's you mentioned are not unusual, particulrly the further back you research.

The hard part of family research is finding the proof.

If I can help, I will.  Same goes for most folk on RC.

At the end of the day, you need to analyse it all and take it from there.

If I have time, I'll have a closer look for you but it might not be for a while.

Best of luck.

Dave
