Looking for possible burial locations
« on: Sunday 16 November 14 20:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi all.

I'm trying to find possible burial locations for someone who died at home, living at Copestick Street, Ancoats. I've seen part of an old map showing All Souls church in Ancoats, but after reading up on it it doesn't have a graveyard.
I have also searched the manchester council burial records with no positive result.
I'm looking for the burial of John Johnson, who died at Copestick Street, in February of 1922. He was born around 1863 in Beswick / Bradford area of Manchester.
His wife died in 1948, and is buried in St.Josephs R.C cemetery, He isn't buried with her.
Any advice gratefully received,

Thanks in advance, Benn.

Hi Benn

You need to ask someone to do a look up at the closed (1950) Ardwick Cemetery, think the records are on Findmypast but not sure. As the crow flies less than a mile from Copestick St

hi have you seen this - the date is aug 1922 not feb but worth bearing in mind if only not to confuse him with your relative

Hi Benn

Most church cemeteries were full, full, full by the date you are talking about.  Assuming that you have got the death cert and are happy that this man did in fact die locally.  I would look toward the local municipal cemeteries.  Here is a list: http://www.mlfhs.org.uk/Infobase/graveyards.php

Not all information is online.  It may also be worth thinking about where his parents, a previous spouse (?) or any siblings might be buried.  You may find him there - most graves will hold 10

CD

PS - If using Manchester Burials online, try not to be too specific (dates etc).  Some people are recorded under the first name as 'Mr' or 'Mrs'!
