Thomas Richard BARBER - born Douglas approx 1860 who married Ada KINDER
« on: Monday 16 September 13 18:58 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me please.

I am trying to trace my great grandfathers father - a Thomas Richard Barber who was born in Douglas around 1860 - and was married  to Ada Kinder in around 1891 in Chorlton Manchester.  They had 4 surviving children of 6 originally, one of whom was my g grandfather Colonel Thomas Victor Barber born around 1899.  In the 1911 Census they are living in Withington in Manchester, England, my g grandfather had brothers called Ralph, Charles and William.  Charles was killed in action in the Great War (Charles Ashton Barber born 1894, Fallowfield Manchester)

Information wanted about the Barber family background in the Isle of Man

Any help appreciated

Thank you so much, that is brilliant.  I have only just started to uncover information on these family members so this is a big help.  I know a little of what happens after this - they family turn up in Manchester - in the Obituary of one of the sons Lt Charles Ashton (Assheton) Barber who is sadly killed in action in Achiet le Grand during the Great War it says he is the 2nd son of Thomas Richard and Ada Kinder and that they reside at Tatton View in Withington which is in Manchester, England.  Charles Barber is serving with the Royal Marine Light Infantry when he is killed.  He joined the Army 28/09/1914 and served at Galipoli prior to his untimly death.  (There is a photograph of Charles as a young man in my grandfathers photograph albums!).  My link to the family is Colonel Thomas Victor Barber who was actually my grandfathers stepfather but raised him from the age of 2 so my grandfather always referred to him as Dad and talked alot about him.  Thomas Victor Barber married my g grandmother Renee Lacey (nee Holland) in Fylde Lancashire in Sept 1924.  I know that he was a painter (I have a portrait of him and my g gran that he painted in my attic!) and that he was of fairly high rank in the British Army - he was awarded a CBE in 1946.  Later he ran a boarding house with my g grandmother in Warwick Square, Westminster London - but as I said I have not done alot of research into all these things yet...plenty more to do.

I noticed earlier when I started to search on here that there was a post '1851 + 1861 Barker-Douglas'...I thought at the time that the post may have been referrring to 'my'Barbers - but I can't find the post now to link the 2 up.  If anyone can help with this I would also be grateful.

I have several photos of Col Thomas Barber and I think one of his father Thomas Richard if anyone wants to see those, feel free to contact me

Thank you for your help I really appreciate it.
