1 High Shore, MacDuff
« on: Monday 16 September 13 20:16 BST (UK) »
Trying to find out who lived at 1 High Shore, Macduff in 1959 for a friend.

She has a document giving the address but is unsure why the person the document is about was at that address as no other family members can give any reason or have any knowledge why she would have been there.

Surname of the person in the document is Mack.

Can anyone help or advise where I may be able to get this information?

You need to get a look at a copy of the Register of Electors and/or a copy of the Valuation Roll.

The first will tell you the names of all the people registered to vote as residents at that address, and the second will tell you who owned the property and who the tenant and, if different, the occupier was/were.

There are copies of the RofE and VR in the National Library of Scotland, the National Archives Records of Scotland and probably Aberdeen Archives. There are also likely to be copies in some local libraries in Banffshire, and in the Moray Local Heritage Centre in Elgin.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
