Headstones at Fordyce Churchyard
« on: Wednesday 30 July 14 19:45 BST (UK) »
Hi

I would appreciate it if anyone could help me please. I am looking for the headstones and monumental inscriptions for a Jane Smith maiden name Johnston born c. 1833, died 25th December 1858 age 25 married to Alexander Smith born 31 March 1835 died 10th January 1912. They lived in Sandend and are both interred in Fordyce Churchyard. I would also like to know the whereabouts of the Churchyard in Fordyce and location of Headstones if possible.

Just had a look at the Aberdeen Family History Centre and it does not look if they have a book on the M I inscriptions for Fordyce. You could try google

I would also like to know the whereabouts of the Churchyard in Fordyce and location of Headstones if possible.

The kirkyard is in the village of Fordyce. The village is small and it would be hard to miss the kirkyard.

See http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ5563
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you for your reply and link to geography.  I should now be able to find the kirkyard.  Fordyce is a beautiful village.

Hi

I would like to thank AlanZed for his much appreciated help.  He gave me the transcription of the Headstone for Alexander Smith and Jane Johnstone, along with the location of the headstone in Fordyce Churchyard.  I found this recently while in the Fordyce area, thanks to his directions.
