Last piece that I came across was that she arrived in Southampton in 1954 on Feb 19 from Maderia
She obviously took a cruise after Joseph died; she gave her address as Annaghcloon and status as housewife!

Best of luck

Thank you - if I solve the mystery I'll let you know.

There was a 75 yr old Clarice Rovena Bruce whose death was registered in 1974 in Devon, you might want to dig into that if only to eliminate it...

Thanks Gaffy
That looks like the right one - I've never found her birth registration or her sisters. 1901 census she was 3, 1911 age 13 - so 1898/1899 seems right.
Looks like a 3rd marriage.

Well done gaffy!

I had thought you had more on her birth; I had looked up more about her and found the following that may be of help
Lawrance family on www.familysearch.org
Clarice Winifred b. 22 Jul 1896; bap. 14 Jan 1897; d. 03 Apr 1897 bur. Gwinear
Clarice Rovena b. c1898; bap. 29 May 1899;
Zoe Marion b. 14 Dec 1899; bap. 15 Apr 1900
Mavis b. c1903 bap. 22 Feb 1903; m. 1926 William Peverell TREWHELLA

There are several births registered in the area as female that could match

Joseph Roland BRENNAN was born in Kenmare and he is there on the 1901 census and in Dublin with his aunt in 1911; I jotted a few notes on him as well if you need more

My jury's still out!    :)

The "Clarice Rovena" forename combo is quite unusual and the DOB from the death registration is in the ball park (25 Jan 1899) and the Devon death registration is in the right part of the world for someone returning to somewhere not too far from her roots... but I can't find any marriage of a Clarice... to someone of the surname Bruce.

Edited to add: I've encountered weirder / less probable co-incidences in my own family tree!

Unfortunately haven't we all!!!!! Clarice Rovena is an unusual combination but you always have to confirm.

If the marriage was in Ireland after 1959 it won't be online to search for - hopefully the 1974 death cert will throw some light on next of kin and help in Richview's search

As a member of the Naval Historical Collectors & Research Association I am keen to learn more about Joseph Roland Brennan as I am researching his story, hopefully with a view to publication in our quarterly journal. My investigations so far have led to an outline of his service history being posted on the Unit Histories website. I'm grateful for the info posted here, but can anyone tell me more?
