John FLYNN, Ballaun, Galway

Hello,

I am looking for information on my Great-Grandfather, John FLYNN, possibly born Apr. 22, 1838 in Bullaun, Galway, Ireland. I think his father’s name was Bryan.

He married Anne CAHILL, who was possibly born either on  Aug. 15, 1848 or May 18, 1849 in Bullaun, Galway,  they wed on Jan. 13, 1868 in Danesfort, Loughrea, Galway. I believe that her parents were John Cahill and Anna O’Brien (from her Death Certificate). Ann Cahill Flynn died Nov. 5, 1916 in Manchester, NH.

They immigrated to New York and lived for a time in Milo and Dundee, NY. The Family moved to Manchester, NH sometime around the 1890’s.

They had 9 children:
Mary born Nov. 13, 1868 Bullaun, Galway
Anna born Dec. 1871 married Michael Badger
Margaret G. born in Dundee, NY  Oct. 8, 1874, married Michael Treacy, died Feb. 23, 1951, Quincy, MA
Elizabeth (Lizzie) born Mar. 1876 married Patrick Leahy
Thomas J. Flynn born Sep. 1880 married Annie ?
John Harry Flynn Mar. 1882-1964
Edward P. born Mar. 4, 1884, died May 26, 1914 in Manchester, NH
Theresa (Tessie) born Feb, 1886 married Thomas Furlong
Lorena (Laurena) born Sep. 1888

The Family story is that John left the Family around 1890 and moved back to Ireland. I am looking for any records of him or his forebears in Ireland.

I know it is a long shot without more information.

I had the John Flynn - Anne Cahill marriage, but not the other information about their children's marriages.

I just did a quick search onthe LDS site so you might want to check for more information.

I tried searching the LDS site for John Flynn/Anne Cahill in Ireland and only came up with their daughter Mary born in Bullaun, Ireland Nov. 13, 1868. I guess that I have to learn more about the site.

Marriage of John Flynn & Anna Cahill lists his father as Bryan

I see that Griffiths lists Bryan Flynn in Bullaun, County Galway:

Does anyone know more potential sources that I could check on?

There is a death of a John FLYNN in the Ballinasloe district in 1899 aged 62. This is a long shot but it may be him. It is the correct district for Bullaun and age for John. If he did return to his home. It may be worth investigating.

There are two further possible deaths in 1900, one in Galway district which could place him more towards the city and west of the county and one in Roscommon (a different county). Both aged 65 which is slightly out but that was not uncommon. These two are less lightly contenders unless he did not go to his original home
