Staunton ,Auctioneers.
« on: Thursday 28 November 13 15:36 GMT (UK) »
I have a marriage in Kiltormer Catholic Church 26 Sep 1871 for
James Staunton age 26 servant son of Thomas Staunton,Auctioneer to
Bridget Mcgrath age 21 daughter of John Mcgrath Farmer, bride and grooms residence Kiltormer.

1901 Census of 7 Addergoole shows
James STANTON age 55 born Galway married.
Michael 16
Patrick 14
James 12
Jane 10
1901 Census of 7 Kiltormer shows
Bridget Staunton servant age 45 married residing at public house of John Dunny age 52

1911 Census of Addergoole shows
James STANTON age 71 farmer born Dublin having crossed out Galway
Bridget age 68
James age 24
Patrick Buyrne age 6 grandson born Dublin
Mary Buyrne age 7 grandaughter born New York.

I was in the National Library yesterday looking at pos 2433 and found the marriage in 1871 however the priest never recorded either of their parents names so all i have to go on is their fathers names from the civil cert.

Through googling Thomas Staunton Auctioneer Galway i got one hit from Ireland Old News in the 1840s for farm contents being Auctioned by Staunton and Co in Galway that is the only lead i have got so far.
I was wondering could anyone tie this Thomas with that company.
Also the two grandchildren above cant find a connection.
any leads greatly appreciated.
Regards Dathai.

The two grandchildren in 1911 census have the surname Buyrne not Buyne-

Hi There

Thomas MAY have worked for another auctioneer as opposed to having his own company so may not show up.

Also it appears that James was from Dublin which means Thomas may have had his practice there OR worked for someone else there.

It depends on where in Dublin James came from BUT if in the city there is a James possible in 1839 to Thomas Staunton and Margaret / Mary Healy.

Early days yet though !

Tara

Hi Daithi, I, also, am trying to find out about Thomas Staunton, Auctioneer. Did you have any luck with this?
